"...the four members of Parchman Farm believe in running with the night, shooting first, barfing last, digging in, getting down, staying true, staying alive, slapping fives, and always living in the deep red. They don't believe in miracles, puppetry of the penis, empty film canisters, serial numbers, the story of Christmas and dinosaurs. They believe in violent metaphors. They are adrift, focused, panic-stricken, unwashed, and slightly dazed. They are like a shark riding on top of an elephant, just stomping and chomping everything in sight."

"Drink the Bleach are comprised of former members of Cutthroats 9, Totimoshi, Floating Goat, and Nappy Time Junction, and are described as being extremely heavy and fast, with alternating guitar leads and off timing, mixed with sharp breaks into swampy slow sludge, and three-way vocals."

    OK...

this show was pretty fucking rockin'!

Caught about half of Drink the Bleach, but not really- too busy at the bar socializing with the long lost heads there. Will reserve judgement 'til another time when I can pay attention to 'em.

Parchman Farm- KICKED MY ASS. Was totally caught off guard, even tho their singer's an old acquaintance: just kick-out-the-jams-motherfucker rocking-ness without being super trendy in any way (retro, nu metal, etc.) There were identifiable elements to their sound, but they didn't sound derivative at all: like if you took the MC5, Zep, Blue Cheer, and some other Acid Rock greats and put them in a blender, the resulting mix would only be the frosting on Parchman Farm's cake. I'll see 'em again, definitely. Any fans of Stoner Rock should download their mp3 too. (www.jackpinesocialclub.com/parc....htm)

And now- the coup de grace- High On Fire...

...to use an old Matt Pike-ism, they utterly *punished*. The new songs went over pretty well (I dug 'em!) and the old ones almost made people foam at the mouth like rabid preachers with epilepsy. A friend at the show who's a drummer took one look at their kit and uttered "Holy Shit..." -the wall of amps, the colossal kick drum, etc. By the end of the night it was apparent that all that gear wasn't mere stage dressing.

All in all: if you missed this show, you missed out bigtime. Who cares if it was a school night? Live a little! ;)
